Escaping Quarantine
This body of work documents Cambridgeshire's public spaces during the first nine weeks of government lockdown. From mid-March, the UK government advised its residents to 'Stay at Home' and if necessary, leave their homes for limited purposes, one being a form of exercise a day - a run, walk or cycle. Parks and public areas became, more than ever, the places people used to unwind and feel a sense of normality.
I therefore decided to visit a different park each week along with my medium format camera to portray the changes implemented due to COVID-19, such as the closure of playgrounds. However, more importantly, I focused on the people I encountered and the positivity that radiated through a distant interaction with them. My main intention whilst creating the images was to escape my own quarantine at home to cope with the surreal situation and, in doing so, I captured the way others escaped their own quarantine.
